In an event that attracted about 10,000 guests and a small contingent of media, Irish technology giant Appcelerators founder and CEO Brendan Mearns was handed a €3m award for his company’s mobile app development.

Appcelerator, which is backed by a consortium of Irish tech companies, is a mobile game developer that focuses on iOS and Android applications.

The company also provides apps for the iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones.

Appceleration’s mobile game development is based on a free-to-play model that allows users to play and download apps in the background.

The Irish Times reported earlier this year that Appcelerations chief executive Brendan Mears, who was born in Dublin, was looking for investors.
